Plex vs serviio2/10/2024 ![]() You can get bluray and remux content just fine, but you'll be limited by your network speed, obv. Some rip their blurays to watch them in original quality on their devices. Subs works just fine, again will be pulled in just like an *arr stack ![]() ![]() Often there are no subtitles at all or they are timed badly If there's a public torrent out there, you'll find it just as well as an *arr stack If the content is particularly new, old or just not popular you will have trouble finding it Bandwidth issues are going to be due to the user's end and not the pipes at the debrid service There is rarely any buffering as content is played through debrid services. Same as *arr stack would retrieve.īuffering. Videos are as good a quality as a torrent can be found - normally webrips and blueray rips so not poor quality. Biggest 'grey area' addon is torrentio which queries and aggreates results from the big torrent engines, and is updated automatically as these change. Stremio can but isn't normally used to direct-play from filehosters. Stremio can't really compete on those (except maybe downloading, but files will always be full size, never transcoded down which isn't great for phone use, say).īut in all honesty I agree, for the dodgy single-use streaming of popular disposable content (some people like to curate and keep their own library - again a reason to use plex) Stremio is a viable alternative to the complexity of an *arr stack for many.Ī lot of those issues don't apply to Stremio.ĮDIT: lol, who's downvoting this - Stremio is an app which uses a variety of addons to obtain contents, the most common of which is torrentio which is a torrent aggregation meta-search engine with media played back via debrid providers: You can work around bits of this - push niche data to your debrid, or use it's local files feature etc but in just talking what most users seem to do.Įven if all this suits the user, Plex has additional functionality not available on Stremio which may be useful - transcoding content for playback on slower networks/smaller devices, the ability to share your library to others, the ability to watch content in sync with others, ability to (sometimes, lol) download from server to client for fully offline playback like when on a plane, ability to playback media from the server on pretty much any platform you can think of (as Plex clients are everywhere). But assuming you are comparing it to plex when used alongside an *arr stack as a piracy tool then the biggest downsides are it needs internet to stream from, it needs a debrid service for best performance, it can't access media from private trackers (easily), you can only play recent or popular content that's is currently being seeded. Well firstly Stremio is pretty much only useful for piracy. What Is SelfHosted, As it pertains to this subreddit? Also include hints and tips for less technical readers.
